Help with 4 month old EASY
« on: January 09, 2014, 06:38:55 am »
My nearly 4 month old DD is an angel/textbook baby and a pretty great sleeper. She sleeps 12 hours overnight with a dream feed and has done for neary 2 months.
She sometimes has a 45 minute nap but I know she needs an A time adjustment. She's a happy baby and very easy going.
She has been on 4hr EASY for quite awhile with 2 hr A time. It seems she's extending her A time again but she's so young I feel she should still have 4 hourly breastfeeds but her A time is getting longer.

Here is today's EASY. The second A time was 2 1/2 hr And she wasn't looking all that tired but I put her down because I was afraid she would get overtired. I obviously was wrong because she did two short naps today. Can someone give me some advice about an appropriate EASY for her. She will sleep whenever I put her down and self settled by sucking her thumb.

Then she'll probably go to bed around 7pm and sleep until DF at 1030/11.

Nothing wrong with giving an extra little feed shortly before nap time.

I agree that as these LOs get older and until they're onto solids it can be helpful to not stick to a strict EAS pattern. Just make sure you keep something between the e and the s, eg a nappy change so that the child doesn't become reliant on the feed before the sleep. Alternatively, just go with it for a couple of days and allow the feeds to stretch a little more, if she's sleeping a bit longer it may only be 4hrs and a bit between feeds but if she's sleeping longer she may be using less energy than she currently is with a 45 min nap and more A time between each feed.

Thanks girls that does make sense. When she was doing good naps I had to wake her for feeds so that she wasn't more than 4.5 hours between feeds. She's not asking for a feed when she wakes up from a short nap but I didn't want her EASY all off balance and she will never turn a feed down.

She ended up going to bed for the night at 745 because we were a bit late getting the kids in the bath.
