Time to switch?
« on: January 16, 2014, 20:28:48 pm »
My 14.5 month olds schedule is currently:

5:00 Wake/nurse
7:00 back to bed
9:00 Wake
2:00-4 nap
9:00 bed

We have been having issues recently where he has not really been settling at night, he falls asleep for about 3 hrs then it seems that he just stays in a half asleep state the rest of the night tossing and turning and is just all over the place, he's waking early, naps run a bit short, ect.

We are also just starting in the process of breaking the swaddle  ::) since he wakes up and gets frustrated trying to break out, BUT each time we try no swaddle he flails his arms around all night...

SO should we change the schedule THEN break the swaddle, break the swaddle then change the schedule, OR tackle it together? Also, what did your 14mo schedule look like?

Hi there. That is a LOT of day sleep, and pretty early in the day. I also notice that it is a pretty LONG day. The average A time of a 14 month old is around 4.5 hours. I would say that many LO's ( both of mine) were on a good nap 1.5-2 hours and then a short CN of 30 minutes or so. Some people do a CN in the morning and big nap in the early afternoon. Or, you can offer a big nap in the late morning and then do a CN, if you get CN refusal then you can always AP such as car or stroller.  So, if I were you I would bite the bullet and get rid of the swaddle ( brace for chaos) and start pushing the A times. My DD's day looked about like this
A 7:30
S 12-1:30
A 1:30-5
S 5-5:30
A 5:30
S 7:30

Let me know what you think, hope this helps!

That looks similar to what I was going to push for. The only thing would be that he refuses to sleep longer than around 8 hrs a night... I've tried to get him to sleep longer in the am but if he does fall back asleep it's only about another 1/2 hr. So I guess I was trying to make up for that with an early nap... And I would have to do the AP nap cuz if he falls asleep there's no CN lol. If I wake him after 30 min he's a terror the rest of the night. I was thinking maybe something like this:

A: 7:00 (It's going to take work but it would be ideal)
S: 12:00
A:2:00

Bed: 8:00ish

And put a short nap somewhere between 2-8?

We did a night I swaddled and it was chaotic... Lol tossed and turned all night, crawled around, layed sideways... I'm convinced he's a "violent sleeper" haha... Wish me luck for night 2...

Hope you got some rest! I would give a new routine several days to really settle in to see how things are going. If he goes for a big nap from 12-2 ( hopefully sleeps until 7am!) then you might go for a CN around 5:30, maybe 30 minutes then BT about 8...what do you think?  If he is up before 6 I would do first nap around 11 though as that is a pretty hefty A for a 14 month LO. Keep us posted on how things are going! FX for tonight!
