Is it possible to keep just the morning bf?
« on: February 02, 2014, 09:04:12 am »
We're down to just two bf's, our day looks roughly like this:-

8am bf
9-10am solids
(Nap 11ish)
12.30/1pm formula (just recently switched this one)
2pm solids
(Nap 3.30 ish)
4pm bf
5.30pm solids
7.30 bt formula
1am ish formula

Am I going to be able to switch the 4pm feed but keep the 8am feed (if I chose to)?

At 11 months (just before I returned to work) I dropped L down to just the morning BF and she kept it til 18 mos when I stopped offering it and she didn't ask for it.

So IME it's totally possible to keep bfing with just one feed (both sides I think) per day. I had no issues and my supply for it was fine.

Thanks ladies.

Yes, I feed both sides Cath.

So how do I go about dropping that 4pm feed? The first couple I had to pump for a bit to keep comfortable but since then I've just been able to drop without any problems as I've still fed regularly enough, but am I going to have issues if I suddenly drop to just the one?

I'm not sure in ready to drop the 4pm one yet, just exploring the idea ;)

I think I just stopped it cold turkey. Was a bit full the first day or so but then it was fine.  Like you say, you can always express a little if it's too uncomfortable.

C was only having the morning bf for the last few months. He never had a regular schedule for bf'ing so it gradually reduced down to one but I would just do the same as you have done for the others :)

Definitely you can keep one feed if you choose to.

Only pump if you want milk to store or you need to for comfort.

mine were both on one feed per day for the last few months of bfing (for us it was the bedtime feed). So I'd also say you'll be fine x

I did morning only for the last few months of bf.  We dropped the BT feed (6 pm) with no problems and very little discomfort for me.
