Help! Need solutions for plugged duct after weaning
« on: February 08, 2014, 02:07:41 am »
My 16 month son had been nursing at bed time, as well as up to 3 times during the night. Nothing during the day. I weaned him cold turkey, but did pump the first night after I weaned him as well as the second night. A week later I now have what I'm pretty sure is a plugged duct. I've had that twice before in the same breast. Would love to hear any tips/suggestions as I don't want this to lead to mastitis. I've had a warm shower, applied heat to it, and massaged it. I'm going to buy cabbage tomorrow, but any other ideas are more than welcome!

It sounds like you are doing all the right things already. I would definitely get hold of the cabbage leaves. Ice packs are another option while you're waiting to get the cabbage but the cabbage is more pleasant.

Do you have any symptoms of mastitis like redness of the breast, fever or flu-like symptoms?

No flu-like symptoms, I'm being hyper aware. Thanks!

Have you tried heat and massage, then pumping  a little while massaging that spot and then the cold?

Germans swear by ice cold quark, but I don't know if you can get your hands on some.
