She's rolling around, not sleeping at all, for hours.
« on: February 13, 2014, 15:00:27 pm »
The latest expression of Ivy's crazy sleep (not denying the good spurts of sleep we have had, but this is one of the weirdest and most frustrating) is down right maddening. This has happened for the past 2 days and this is getting ugly.

Day 1, nap at regular time laid her down with no fussing or resistance. I was sure she was asleep but the lights (lowest level of sound) on her monitor kept going off and on. I had to "wake" her to go get DS and when I went in she was sitting up playing with a sticker that we had put on her crib. In the dark! In hindsight, I don't think she ever went to sleep! She was MAD when I took her out and looked tired. That night when I laid her down there were lights on the monitor off and on for an hour ( after about 5.5 hour A, IF she went to sleep at nap) after about 1.5 hours she woke up and was MAD. Gave her a drink and laid her down. Lights continued off and on until DH got home and he came and got the monitor.  ;D.  He reported she woke up screaming (or was she asleep?) and then up screaming for the day.

Day 2. basically the same! But total chaos at night time, went down at 7:45 and intermittent lights off and on but no screaming. then woke around 12:20 and  was up til 3. I tried to calm her which made her hysterical, and she screamed and screamed. Offered water, took her out for a break and then laid her down with me in nursery bed where she rollled and rolled until she got mad. I was getting frayed so when she asked for a bottle I gave her one and laid her down. She was quiet for  a bit and then on her next call DH took her as I was headed to a bad place to be dealing with her madness anymore.

Thoughts, Mamas? This is strange even for her. I can't believe she still has more nonsense to throw at me at this age. She must be so far beyond tired. IT is just so frustrating. I don't even want to think about how darn predictable DS's sleep was at this age, but i need to get over that. Come on Ivy!

Does she have her 2 year molars?  We had the most crazy nights when Js first one came through.  Completely inconsolable long NWs, not settling, nap sillies.

Does she have a set nap usually or are you still using A times?

Thank you Katherine. No sign of molars, I was brave and poked around in there pretty good and not a sign yet. We have been flexibly set naps at 1-1:30 with WU around 8-8:30. Have to get DS at 3 so have to get a decent nap in there before that. BT 8-8:30 depending. Naps have been 1-1.5 hours. Hardly ever more than 1.5 but I have accepted that. SHe has been waking up just livid.

How long has she been on that routine for?  Just thinking she may well need her nap pushing later now she's a bit older, we had to do something similar at around 18 months as she just wouldn't settle at 5h A any more (though will at nursery).  If you don't want a later nap would you consider waking her by 7.30/8 in the morning and aiming for nap at the same time as currently ie about 5.5h A?  We don't have longer naps either but stick with a 12h ish day and that seems to work for us ok.  We wake her by 3pm for a 7pm BT x

She has been on this (or very similar) since beginning of September. I have had things this way so that she and DH are not around when DS and I are getting ready to go. DH is not helpful in the mornings and doesn't get home until 11:15 PM from work so doesn't get to bed until about 12. It might take some doing to get him to bump things up to 7:30 but I am sure we all want to avoid chaos! Men! I swear! Have been watching monitor closely this nap, almost an hour and so far no blue lights. Hope she doesn't wake up mad!

Gosh what a night. SHe was quiet right up until 1:00. Then DH got home and all heck broke loose. Sweet fellow tried to settle her for a long time and then came to get me. Going to probe around in her mouth and check for teeth again and offer Hylands at nap and BT. She was just livid. Sweet girl.

3 hour NW! But I kept it together and she went back out after lots of rolling about and a bottle. She was in with me as she was crashing against the crib walls and throwing herself around hysterically. I did Hylands at BT and again when she woke at 1:30. She went back out about 4:45. Sheesh. This means she got 4 hours less sleep than she usually does. FX for tonight. Come on Ivy, get with it!

Iam at a loss with Ls sleep as well. Same thing foing on here! I remember your post from a few weeks ago with the hysteria. We have this now too. He is so ot it is rediculous!! And he will not calm down without me in the room! I am so afraid of making bad habits. How are you handling it when she screams??

Well, what we had been doing was taking a break and stepping out into the living room to try to take a deep breath. But this has made it so much harder to get her back INTO nursery. Last night what sort of worked for us was just stay as calm as possible and keep her with me and talk to her quietly (through VERY loud screaming) and just told her that we were staying in nursery and that she was OK. WE also offered water and Hylands tablets. Where are you in terms of teeth? I mean, as I was doing this I had no idea WHAT ELSE to do! So I just took many deep breaths and kept on going, knowing what had made things worse before. I think the bottle helped mellow her out, I am afraid of bad habits too but I need her to sleep more and she has been quite the independent sleeper before so I can't help but feel this will sort out. She is usually the sort of girl who wants her space so I have hopes for when things swing around again. In the meantime, she needs sleep! Hugs!

Yes i have bewn doing what you have been doing too and just sitting next to his crib saying its ok im here go to sleep and shushing a lot. Eventually he calms down. The problem is in the middle of the night. I cant stay awake! Once he calms down he is still awake for a while just laying there bit i dont want to sleep on the floor yk??
He has all teeth except 2yr molars. Bottom canines are only about a 3rd way out but they dont seem to bother him anymore really now that they have cut....

I dont know what to do anymore really...

It's tough isn't it? Can you make yourself quite comfortable on the floor until this passes? Sorry but that is what I would do!
