EASY for a 1 yr old
« on: February 12, 2014, 19:47:56 pm »
Hi all, I am back again in this board.  You might not remember me.  But back in Sept/Oct last year, Noa helped me a lot on EASY when my LO was 7-8 months old.  It's been 4 months now.  EASY went great for my LO until we had to travel overseas for 2 weeks in late Dec.  Of course his routine was a mess during that 2 weeks there.  After we got back from vacation about 1 month ago, it took me 2 weeks to get my LO back on track.  Now he is almost 1 (1st birthday next week YAY!) His routine now looks like this:

WU @ 8am
8oz formula + breakfast
11am-1pm nap#1
130pm lunch
330pm 8oz milk
4-6pm nap#2
7pm dinner
9pm 6oz milk
930pm or 10pm BT (STTN until I wake him at 8am)

I usually have to wake him up from sleep and naps.  So I don't know how much longer he can actually sleep if I didn't wake him.  I find his bedtime is getting later and later.  His nap time used to be 1-1.5 hr long and be in bed by 8pm.  Since now he naps longer, everything shifted.  So his bedtime is pushed to 9-ish.  Do you think he is ready for 1 nap?  Or I should cap his naps?  How about the routine overall?  Any tweaking is needed for E and A?  I just recently switched from 4 bottles to 3.  Is he ready for 3-2 bottles transition soon?

Or should I just leave the way it is until something comes up like refusing nap or night wake occurs? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Amy

I would definitely cap at least one of his naps and bring his BT much earlier. You might have to do it gradually but I would aim for that second nap to be just 45 mins and BT to be 8.30pm assuming an 8am start and long morning nap works for you.

Also have a look at this FAQ on the 2-1 nap transition. From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older)

To move to 1 nap you really need to build A times up to 4.5hrs or more. As his morning nap gets later as a result of that first A time extending you will soon be able to let him sleep for 3hrs or so and just do one nap.

That makes sense.  I am thrilled he can nap for 4 hrs total during the day.  But because of that, I had to shorten his A time to 3 hrs to fit everything in.  I know for his age, he can handle 3.5+ hrs A time.  I think what I will do is to take your advice.  I will keep the am nap as it is and shorten his pm nap to 45 mins gradually so that I can bring BT an hr earlier.  If that works out, I will try to extend the first A time for the 2-1 transition.  Thanks!

Sounds good. The long day naps are good but night sleep is more restful and you get a better evening yourself after he goes to bed too ;)
