naps for 2 yr old
« on: March 02, 2014, 05:13:46 am »
it is getting much more difficult to get DD to nap :-[  such a bummer.  She has been doing about 1-1.5hr nap since she turned 2.  I sooo miss the 2 hr naps.  her routine is
wake 7 - 7:30
nap 1:30 - 3 (this is a set nap)
bed 7:30

I am finding that atm she is happy to go to her room for a nap and happy through our wind down, which we have been doing forever, until we get to the point of turning out the lights.  she then cries about not wanting to take a nap.  when I convince her to then it takes me 20-30 min just to get her calmed down and sleepy enough to nap.   when she doesn't cry about napping then she it is just in general hard to get her tired enough to sleep.  our normal routine of songs isn't working as well as it has in the past.  used to take no time at all.

are we getting to the dreaded nap dropping already?  can it really be happening already?
I hope not.  DD1 dropped her nap about 3 yrs old and i thought that was really early.

Sounds like it could be the start....I nixed DD1's nap at 2.5 in favour of preserving bt as it was getting pushed back but she had a "rest" time and dealt with ot okay. DD2 stopped napping at daycare by 2/2.5 but napped at home until maybe 3.5 or so and had a rest time up until this fall when she started kindergarten.

Maybe push the nap a half hour later?  I am so bad at tweaking though which is why we dropped DD1's cold turkey.

Hi there!

It maybe that your LO is ready to drop the nap but IMO it's probably a tad too early at 2y. There is a developmental leap at this ages which for us (and lots of others) manifested it's self in sleep sheananigans including nap refusal. I think all you can do is ride it out. I perserved with the nap sticking to R's routine as closely as she'd allow and did Wi/WO to insist on the nap. Some days she napped and others she didn't or had a short nap and I'd EBT to compensate. I'm glad I rode it out though. At 31m she's still napping for 1.5h (1h45m on pre-school days - twice per week)

Well when she turned 2 we had crazy sleep issues which have past as of a few months now but every summer then her map has been shorter and now she is just at the point of my wanting to nap period.  :-\ it May be like you all have posted in that we just need to do nap every other day. How would I institute quite time though.  I am thinking she will not like the idea.  Btw she is driving me NUTS lately! Must be a 2 year old thing.

For us quiet time was the same as naptime - in their room/crib with lights out but they were left to sing/chat etc to themselves (out of the moment we talked about how they could lay and rest and talk to their stuffed animals because we all needed a break).
