how do you work out the next nap..
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:20:20 am »
My boy just woke at 9.30 from a very broken nap. His next feed is at 10.30 so does that mean I feed then put him to sleep straight after as he will be awake for 1
5hr at that point?

So at 17 weeks I would expect a normal A time when well-rested to be around 1h45-2h.  After a short nap you would anticipate it (for most babies) to be reduced, but I wouldn't tend to go much shorter than 1h30 at this age.  The danger with putting him down again too soon is he has another short or broken nap and then ends up really OT by the end of the day.  It's not an exact science and some babies will display good tired cues that you can follow, but others won't and it just takes a bit of experimenting.  Sorry that's a bit vague!

Thanks jess.
I must be getting it wrong on a daily basis then as boy is always OT around 5pm but wont nap. Naps are short but not sure if that is silent reflux or me getting him wrong. He is always falling asleep at boob or bottle.

Not getting it wrong :-* it's tough being a mum!

If he has silent reflux however that can definitely present some significant challenges to sleep.  Is he medicated?  How are his symptoms at the moment?
