Should I start solids?
« on: April 03, 2014, 08:47:11 am »
Hello all
My 5 month old twin girls are on 4h EASY and have been for 2 weeks, but for the last week it seems like they cannot take enough on each feed and cry for more after finishing. They take the maximum dose that is on the formula, 8 ounces. Should I give them more milk or would this be a sign that they are ready for solids? They also STTN and last feed is around 6:15/6:30.

Hi there :)

How much milk are they getting in 24hrs? I think the recommended amount is a minimum of 24ozs across 4 bottles at this age - are they taking at least this?

Well they're certainly getting enough milk then :) milk continues to be their most important nutritional source until 12 months so if you choose to introduce solids it's important that they don't effect milk intake. Here in the uk it's recommended to wait until 6 months, but this link may be useful Is your baby ready for solids?

(And I'm very jealous that they STTN - my 10 month old still has a night feed and often wakes more than that too, and at 5 months he was still having 2 or 3 night feeds!)

Thank you Catherine, I will have a look at the link.

Well, I know they are doing really well at the moment, but if there's one thing I know for sure, is that you never know for sure! :) anything could change at any moment, so Im just trying to enjoy while it lasts! :)

On the other hand, the one twin naps terribly during the day, 3, max 4X30mins and complitely addicted to the dummy :(

Thanks once again!
