BT problems
« on: March 19, 2014, 20:15:43 pm »
My 15 month old dd has always loved her bed and has been an independent sleeper since 8 months and even up to then all I had to do was rub her head til she fell asleep. For the past 3 nights she goes completely hysterical when I put her to bed and leave the room which is what I've always done. I give her a bottle, read a book in the bedroom in semi darkness, put her into bed with her soother, turn on her projector and leave the room and she chats for 5 or 10 mins then goes to sleep. Usually. She has just transitioned from 2-1 naps a day only last week. Is it connected with this? At the start of the transition she was taking a 1.5 hour nap and going to bed no problem but exhausted at 6.30. For the past 3 days she has taken 3 hour naps. I changed BT to 7 but maybe this is too early and she's UT?  Ill post her routine for the past 2 days and maybe someone can see something obvious...
Yesterday
WU 6:30
E    7:00 150ml milk followed by breakfast of cereal, fruit and milk
11:00 small portion of spag Bol, water from beaker
A.   4 hours 50 minutes
S.   11:20 - 2:20
E.    2:30 fish finger, potato, yogurt, beaker of water
5:00 chicken casserole, yogurt, beaker of water
       6:30 150ml milk
A.    4 hours 40 minutes
BT.  7:00 cried til 8:30 regardless of whether or not I was in the room or not. I ended up having to rock her to sleep in my arms which I haven't done since she was tiny
Today
WU. 6:00
E.    6:30 150ml milk followed by breakfast of cereal, fruit and milk
11:00 small portion of chicken casserole (too tired to eat more)
A.    5 hours 20 minutes (really tired all morning but had to push her to stay up cos she won't take 2 naps)
S.    11:20-2:20
E.    2:30  Rest of casserole, fruit
5:00. Potato, beans, blended vegetables, custard
       6:30 150ml milk
A.    5 hours
BT.   7:15 cried as soon as I left room. Tried pu/pd. hysterical. Took her back out of bed at 7:45 because maybe she wasn't tired. She played for 30 mins then started crying hysterically again. Exhausted. I put her back to bed at 8:15. She got into bed ok but screamed crying when I left the room. Stopped when I walked back in. I stood in doorway for a minute and left. She went to sleep.

I know taking her back out of her room at 7:15 was completely the wrong thing to do but I just do not know what is wrong. I never thought I'd have this problem as she has always loved going to bed.
The cry is almost like shes in pain but i don't think it's teeth as shes in great form during the day, eating fine and she STTN last night once she fell asleep.
I think she's eating enough, is she...
Is it possible that it's a late separation anxiety? But she goes for her nap no problem.
Can anybody help?
I don't think the problem is OT. Do you guys? Or UT? I don't know.

You're getting a really good long nap there. It might just be that she's getting too much day sleep and it's roving the night sleep. I wouldn't normally suggest nap capping this early but what about waking her after 2.5 hours and seeing if this makes a difference, or going for a later BT?

Thanks. She only took a 1.5 hour nap today so hopefully tonight wil go better.
I have to add a NW now to the problems. She woke last night from 3-4:30am. I gave her milk and she cried when it finished until I gave her more. What is going on?

Sorry I'm still on this. I have a new theory and just wondering if you guys think this could be a possibility.
Tonight after her 1.5 hour nap she went to sleep at 6:40 no problem.
I'm now wondering if her room is too dak. We recently got blackout blinds and blackout curtains so the room is pitch black at night. When she went to sleep tonight it was still bright outside so the room wasn't completely black. The previous 3 nights when she was hysterical, BT was later and it was dark. She's just after waking up at 8:30 crying hysterically again. This has NEVER happened before. When she goes to sleep at night that's it except when she can't find her soother.
The darkness would explain why she cries whenever I leave the room and close the door.
Is a fear of a completely dark room normal at 15 months? Or does it sound like something completely different and I'm just grasping at straws?
Obviously I'm going to try leaving on a dim night light to see if it makes a difference but just wondering what you ladies think?

A toddler could become more scared of the dark than a baby, so yes it's possible.

But that NW does sound like Ut and given you had a better BT after a shorter nap today I would say that's more like the cause. Perhaps try capping the nap at 2 hours for a few days and see if things get better.
