How to handle the evening EASY
« on: March 24, 2014, 17:00:16 pm »
So question on how to handle the evenings with EASY. Here is my schedule from 4 pm on. I don't have a nap in between 6:30 and 8pm and baby tends to get overtired during that time.  Should we do a bath in there and just put him down when he seems tired?  My husband doesn't get home til 7ish right now (tax CPA--busy season) and he helps with bath and helps put him down.  After this growth spurt is totally behind us, I want to stop the cluster feeds but I don't think he's ready for that.

E 4:30
A 4:50-5:30
S 5:30-6:30
E 6:30
A 6:50-8:00
E 8:00
A Bath then bedtime about 8:30pm
Night feeds about 12:30-1 (eats well) and 4 (eats ok)

Hi,

Looking at your easy i would definitely go for an earlier bedtime.  My DS could not handle a 2 hr A time until he was five months old so it seems like a long time for a young baby.  We continued cluster feeding until around three months, up until that point he seemed to constantly be going through growth spurts!

How old is your LO?

Just a thought - remember that A time includes the E, so it's all time from eyes open to eyes closed. I hope that helps you work out a good A time for your baby.

Also have a look here:
Average A times- BOOKMARK ME!

This will give you an idea of the average A time for LOs the same age as your LO.

There are times during an LOs development when BT will be earlier and then as they get towards dropping a nap the BT will get later again. It is likely that on and off it may be best for your baby to be asleep before DH gets home, hard for DH I know and hard for you too as you do BT on your own, but it might be best for your baby at the moment.

What does your whole days easy look like?

My LO is 6 weeks and probably a grumpy textbook.

E 07:30
A 07:50-08:15
S 8:30-10:30
E 10:30
A 10:50-11:30
S 11:30-1:30
E 1:30
A 1:50-2:45
S 2:45-4:30
E 4:30
A 4:50-5:30
S 5:30-6:30
E 6:30
A 6:50-8:00
E 8:00
A Bath then bedtime about 8:30pm
Night feeds about 12:30-1 (eats well) and 4 (eats ok)

Right now, he has been managing to get another daytime feed in before 4:30 as well (growth spurt I suspect).

Is it ok to do eating then bedtime without anything in between? I don't every really feed him to sleep and try to put him in the crib awake (then do shush/pat). Would it be ok to do:

E 6:30
A 6:50-7:30pm (including bath)
E 7:30 then off to bed

It is only 1 hr between eating. So if you have 1 hr activity time, that means at 45 minutes you should be starting the nap routine if it takes about 15 minutes? It seems so quick!

It is quick, at this age all they do it pretty much eat and sleep. The eat can take quite a lot of energy for them and is actually quite an active activity time, even if it doesn't seem so to us.

At this age he may be able to manage a little longer between sleeps now (the average A time being about 1hr15/20 mins) but if you're getting those good long naps don't worry about changing things too soon or too quickly.

It is fine to do feed and then sleep at BT, perhaps just do a nappy change and put him down for the night.

Hope that helps x
