So, im getting a little desperate here and hoping you lovely ladies will be able to assist as youve always done in the past!!! LO is almost 2 and has been "babywhisperered" since he was a newborn. He sleeps and naps beautifully at home, put down awake, self soothing etc, in his full size crib where he knows he cant climb out. The problem is when we travel- which is pretty often. He learned to climb out of pack'nplays and porta cribs and jist wont stay in and go to sleep. We are away now, just spent an hour and half tryjng to putbhim down for a nap, he just tries climbing over the railing. I kept patiently and wothou too much emotion putting him back down and saying the same phrase i dod whendoing pu/pd to sleep train.. To no avail. He is so OT, he became so worked up and was shrieking miserably. i tried laying down wit h him in my bed, but being a real baby whisperer baby, hes never slept woth us in bed and thought it was playime. He isualy naps 2.5-3 hours and gets good an cranky without nap. Today is lookomg like s no nap day, a cranky overtired toddler and a preggy hormonal overwhelmed mom :-( Our lofestyle requires a lot of travelling.. Im so overhelemd at the thought of sleep being a huge fight whenever we are awat. what can we do??? Going a little crazy here, pleAse help!!!

When you travel do you drive or fly?

If you drive, you can buy a full sized wood folding crib. We have one. Take it every time we drive somewhere. We bungee it to the roof on our roof rack. They also sell after market roof racks for any vehicle if you don't already have one. You can google both things, the full sized folding crib, and the roof rack.

Also, most towns have baby equipment rental stores. Check to see if there's one in your destination. We've used those before too. They usually deliver and set up the crib and its not that expensive.

I second the suggestion to rent a full crib.

Thank you, I'm going to look into the crib rental thing.

jenn1975- Thank you so much for your helpful suggestions.. We mostly fly when we travel, but I think it might be worthwhile to invest in the foldable crib as well.. my mom lives close by and we haven't been able to leave our son to nap there ever since he started climbign out! Does the crib not fit into a regular car even folded? Do you mind sharing the link to such a crib? I havent been able to find it.

How long till they can sleep in a mat? bed? crib with a rail?? this is turning out to be a tough stage!!

No it doesn't fit inside the car. It folds fairly flat but its as long as a regular crib. Then you have the mattress too.
Here's a link to the one we have. We live in the US. Where do you live?

I know parents move their kids to regular beds at this age. I haven't done that yet with our son. I think he will do just fine once we do but he loves his crib still so theres no rush. He's 2.5. I've read it's easier to get them to stay put the closer they are to 3. But it depends on the kid I guess.

It seems like the link you posted is the size of a portacrib? As opposed to a full size crib? He can climb out of a portacrib the same way he can out of a pack and play.. Does a folding full size crib even exist?

Have you looked into travel cribs that have a zippered top? Maybe that's an option? Here's a link to a few. We looked into the peapod (there's a larger toddler option) when my kids were toddlers as well as the phil & teds option, but I never bit the bullet and bought one. The gocrib has an sunshade option that goes over the top and it appears to go over the top of the crib and you get the child out through the zippered side.

Here's the link that shows the three different options.

I hope you're able to find a solution and you can all get some rest while away from home!
