Can't hurt to try! Hopefully it does the trick and wasn't just a one off.

Hi! Thanks for checking on me that's so sweet.

I tried the 1pm nap but that wasn't working at all causing bad nights and extra early wakings so back to 12:30 we went. He seems to be adjusting slightly as I'm getting some 1.5hr naps now. I got a 45m nap yesterday and 1hr20m today. It all depends on how early he wakes though. I have no idea what the nap lengths mean, is there a rough guide to 1 nap lengths to OT or UT? Just cant seem to make sense of his days or find a pattern of sorts. On some of the days I let him sleep in an extra half hr as he is so exhausted, I hope I'm not prolonging the transition by doing this but he just seems so tired. But other than all that I def feel that he's adjusting. Thanks for asking!

It's tricky with naps lengths and to be honest I've never worked it out myself. When we first transitioned E was definitely OT for quite a while but she did eventually settle onto longer naps. If for now you need to let him have longer nights to make up for shorter naps that sounds ok.

Shorter naps can also be a sign of teething or other discomfort or developmental change so keep an eye out for these other things as you can't tweak your way out of them iyswim.

Ok I'll just tweak each day as I have to so he has longer nights and keep to the 12:30 nap. He is def teething right now so it is making him even more unsettled.

Thanks again for your advice I feel reassured that I'm on the right track. Thanks!

Just another thought - someone helpful once mentioned to me that it can help to count how much sleep LOs get in any 24 period for a few days. Then when the nap is shorter you can adjust BT to try and keep the sleep in 25 hours the same. I hope that makes sense :)

Ok thanks but I understood until you mentioned 25 hours?

If in 24hrs he usu sleeps 14hrs but the next day he slept only 13hrs I would put BT forward 1hr to make up for it?

Sorry that was a typo :(

Yes you can bring BT an hour earlier if the 24 hour sleep amount suggests it'll be needed.
