Hey ladies! I was wondering if you can help me with my 24 nth DS EASY. So my DS sleep has been waaaaaay off for a couple of months.
he went from taking amazing naps and sleeping through the night to waking multiple times each night ???

This has been a typical day for us
7-8 wake
8-1130 activity, outside time, lunch
nap time lately has been 12-3
330 snack
6 dinner
8-9 bed (he fights bedtime. my poor husband has to lay outside his door to reassure my DS that he's there.
sleep by 830-930 it varies. Last night he didn't get to sleep till 9pm and was up 4 times crying out for my DH ::)

so I'm curious..
how much A time does your toddler need before nap and before bedtime??
After doing research I've come to the conclusion that my DS is getting in to long of naps and is waaaay OT by the time its bedtime. Could i be right?
And if I'm right, how many hours of awake time are suggested in between nap and bed? does that make sense?
I know you can't fit a routine to a child but i almost need a sort of schedule skeleton to work with.
anyway, today I'm desperate for answers. I. want. sleep. so any advice would be greatly appreciated. today, after much desperate research, I've decided to tweak his schedule.

So this is how his routine looked like today (mind you, he was up 4 time last night, 4 TIMES!!!! :o)

730 wake
8-830 breakfast
830-11 play, typically outdoors
11 lunch
1140 down for nap (he was up all night, so he was exhausted and cranky)
Typically i let him sleep for 3 hrs but I'm thinking that may be contributing to his night wakings..
so today I'm going to cap his nap at 140pm
230 snack
5 dinner
630 bedtime routine
7ish bed

anyone anyone??

Hayleys, I'm no expert and the mods certainly know better than me but my DD was doing the same. I eventually (after a few 9hr nights) put her down for her nap at 11 yes really early (its normally 12:30) and let her nap, i actually had to waker her after 3 hours which is unheard of then BT as normal at 7. It seemed to do the trick she then slept a 12hr night which is also unusal for us. Then she went back to her usual routine, she was just OT and this has worked a couple of times for us over the past few months.

Normal routine
WU 6:30
Nap 12:30
BT 7pm

As i said i'm no expert but its just a suggestion as it worked for us.

Thank you Eva's mummy that tip could certainly come in handy I think. I'm not sure if OT is the underlining problem but it is certainly in the mix right now. How old is your little one, similar to mine? She is 23 months. Was your DD taking about 2 hrs to fall asleep at bedtime too then?

She has had terrible night sleep and long days for the past 2 nights. She had 8.5 hrs and then only 6.5 hrs last night as she now has a bad cough which is keeping her awake. My sister has her today as I'm workjng so I might see if she can do what you suggested Eva's mummy. My main concern though is her cough will disturb the nap length so I'm not sure if it is a good plan.

Anyone else have any thoughts on if my suggestion is a good idea to do long term once she has caught up on her sleep and this cough has gone.

xx

My DD is 22months old. We have had long times to fall asleep at BT or 5am WU's where i have spent 2hrs on the bedroom floor as i refuse to get her up at that time. I always find vickes on her chest, back and soles of her feet her with a cough for sleeping  :D and prop up 1 end of her cot with some books.

Thank you! I completely forgot about the vapour rub on the soles of the feet! Thanks for reminding me! Her cough actually seems a lot better now and she sleep for 10 hrs last night which was good!

Karnett3, sorry I completely missed your post. Sounds like you are having such a hard time at the moment with so many night wakes! I can't really offer you any advice on the best way forward as I feel I'm still learning the ropes myself. It does sound to me though that you are right in thinking that your DS is perhaps getting too much day sleep. I would think though that you might need to make changes gradually so OT doesn't set in. If you post on your own thread you will get some solid advice as more people will read it. I'll follow along too and offer any support if I can. I hope things have improved for you over the last few days! xx
