Just curious, as we've been having EWings for the past 5+ weeks, shorter naps, and just wondering what other LOs are doing and if he's getting enough sleep. Thanks :)

We had a lot of EWs with lily at that age and if I remember correctly, that's when I had to move her nap later and cap it to an hour or something.  I'll check later and let you know!.....

OK, I'm back!  Just checked and she was doing between 45 minutes and 2 hrs in the day when the EWs started.  Her day originally looked like this:

WU: 5 - 5.45
Nap: 12 - 12.45 / 2 (fighting it some days)
Bedtime: 7ish, but she was fighting it

What fixed it was pushing her nap back to 1pm.  She started self capping it to 45 minutes and I capped at an hour if she went beyond that.  Then she started doing:

WU: 6 - 6.30
Nap: 1/1.15 for 45 minutes to an hour
Bedtime: 7.30

It stayed like that til she started dropping her nap altogether just after she turned 2.  She is slightly lsn though.  My little boy is very lsn and is on the second routine already at 14 months!

We had ew around 21m (developmental as it turned out - r had a huge language explosion)

capping did not help as the rout cause wasn't her day. She was napping 2h and borders on HSN. I think on a average LOs at this age have 1.5h, Maybe a little more?

Ps - have a look at this link, it may help...

Thanks. HenaV - not sure how the link helps though, it suggests 11.5 hours at night and 2 hours nap, then at age 2 11.5 hours at night and 1.5 for naps.
I have been sticking with the 12:30/12:45 nap time, but the results are just inconsistent. And if I put him to bed earlier than 7pm, sometimes he wakes up earlier, sometimes later. It's just all over the place.

We had lots of EWs too which finally stopped around 22/23 months post language explosion.

He was doing a 2hr nap and 7/7:30pm BT, but now his BT is pushed to7:45/8pm...still doing a 1.5 - 2hr nap (sometimes longer) and an 11hr night.

Sorry if you didn't feel it helped. The idea was for you to be able to see what the average sleep needs are of a LO the same age as yours so you can assess whether his nap is too long, too short etc! Hey ho!

Inin terms of consistency, IME your LO will only be consistent if you are - it was just last week you posted that you'd had success combatting you LOs ew? I think if you go back to that plan and compensate with naps up to 15mins earlier and bedtime up to 30m earlier if the nap is short to prevent OT and cap and 2h, remain consistent and ride it out you will see positive results.

Ultimately, you know your LO - if you think there is more amiss here than a developmental leap then I'm sure everyone here at the forum will help support you along the way

HenaV- didn't mean to be rude. Just was wondering if I had missed something. I am sticking with naps around 12:30/45, and BT at 6:30 if his nap is 1.5 hours or less. We'll definitely ride this out. Thanks for your help!

We're getting mucking about at BT and some EWs as well and then every few days we get a really long nap (3h+) as she catches up. Our typical routine is:
WU: 6/6:30 (often earlier the last few days)
S: 12:15-2/2:15
BT: PD around 7 asleep around 7:30/8 (sometimes later lately)

Her average is 12-13 hours of sleep. It used to be closer to 13 but lately is dropping towards 12. She's 21 months.

DD is at daycare during the day so I don't have much room for tweaking. I think I'm going to stick with what we're doing for a week or so to see if it sorts itself out.

DS - November 2014

Hi there
Our lo is 21 & half months. For the last two weeks its taking longer for him to fall asleep at both nap and bedtime. For last three days i put him down for nap 15mins later with capped wake up at norm time. Its worked for him falling asleep but we still have early wake ups. I definitely think its developmental as his speech is really coming on. Will carry on like this for another week or two to see what happens.
