Wake to sleep and early waking
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:57:10 am »
Hi

I think my 12 month old is in the midst of the 2-1 transition  and has been an early riser for a good couple of months waking anytime between 5 and 6. I don't think I've helped things by letting him go down for his nap at 8.15 so I can get some more sleep and he's been using it to extended his nighttime...
Anyway, I'm now pushing back his nap and he'll sleep anywhere between 1 and 2.5 hours. He might then last all the way until bedtime approx 6.30 without another nap - crazy I know - but he will nap if we're out on the car.

As well as working on pushing bk his nap I've just begin wake to sleep last night he'd been waking at 5.15 so Monday night I did it at 4.15 and he slept until 5.45 (slight improvement) and then last night 4.15 again and he woke at 5... Shall keep going at 4.15 or do I need to adjust the time based on the previous mornings wakeup?

It doesn't help that he's just started nursery for two days a week and is not sleeping much while he's there.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm getting seriously blurry eyed and in need of a lie in until at least 6am!

Thank you!

Maybe try 4am for the W2S so he hits the 45 min mark after that earlier and is hopefully too tired still to get up.

Do you try resettling him at the EW?

I'd definitely concentrate on pushing that nap much later, ideally to after 10 or 11.

Can't believe he's a toddler already! Where has the year gone?!

I slept through my alarm to w2s last night but will try again tonight at 4am and see...
We're trying to get him bk to sleep or at the very least rest until 6. We Do the PD and he's tired but just won't relax - as soon as he gets close to drifting off he sits up it stands up. He also does this at Bedtime every so often but I can get him down by PD after Half an hour or so.

Struggling after  at least 8 months of this...... I need sleep!!!

Thanks

Is it dark in his room when he wakes or is the sun coming in at that time? My boys always wake early of they sleep without curtains that block the sunlight. Not sure where you are but here it is light by 4am or so.

Room was pitch black last night (put a duvet over the window as well as blackout blinds) and he still woke at 5 - argh!!i tried wake to sleep at 4 but not sure if I woke him enough as he was sound asleep. Can anyone advise on how awake he needs to be?

Thanks!

For the nighttime wake to sleep he needs to be properly woken. Tracy even recommended changing the nappy.
For the nap time w2s you can normally get away with just stirring them as they aren't in as deep asleep anyway.
