7mo loosing interest in BM?
« on: September 04, 2014, 19:40:12 pm »
For the last two weeks, my LO has turned in to a clingy, needly little guy which drives me nuts. He did just sprout his 7th tooth, so I think some of his whining is due to that. What I am wondering is what to do about his feeding? It's been increasingly difficult to get him to give me a proper BF and he seems less and less interested in nursing. He takes solids 1 hr after every BF and will gobble everything I give him.
When nursing, I can't eat or drink anything or even bite my nails because he pops off and wants whatever I'm having instead.
This morning I woke up to a painfully engorged boob (only one side) which I then desperately offered in a NF. (He usually sttn but has been waken up early lately).
I managed to get him to drink enough before going to sleep tonight so I am hopeful I won't have that same problem tomorrow....
Should I just keep trying until he weans himself?

I should add that he gets an 8oz bottle of Formula for his 10pm DF. He slurps this down without a problem.

It is rare for a baby under 12-18mo to truly self-wean. Maybe he is filling up on solids too readily. If his milk intake is suffering then I would cut back on the solids you offer for a week or two. Milk needs to be his main source of nutrition until 12mo. I had to do this with my DS1 but his milk intake didn't drop again when I increased the solid food again after 2wks.

Ah ok. I will scale the amount back. I find it so hard to know HOW MUCH to give him. I never feed him until he's full but it still seems like a lot! I will give him less.

Maybe play around with when you are offering solid food too. So if for example you are offering it an hour after his BFs then offer a little earlier so he is less hungry and has time to get hungrier before his next milk feed. Or you could only offer once or twice a day if he is already on 3 meals. Or even change what you offer to just finger foods if you are spoon feeding so he has to work for it more and it keeps him occupied for longer giving a change to realise he is full before too much food goes down.

Oh I like that! Fingerfoods!
Anything to keep him happily entertained for longer.
I think he is also just more easily distracted now. I make Papa leave the room or not talk to us while he feeds. Silly kid.
