30 minute naps
« on: September 26, 2014, 20:26:52 pm »
My almost 7 month old (she will be 7 months in two days) has decided this past week that she only wants to take 30 minute naps.  Her routine goes as follows:

7:00 - 7:15 wake up and breast fed
7:15-8:00 A
8:00-8:20 eat solids (cereal)
8:20-9:45 A
9:45-11:45 S
11:45-12:00 snack (breast fed)
12:00-1:00 A
1:00-1:20 solids
1:20-2:45 A
2:45-4:45 S
4:45 -5:20 breast fed and fed solids
5:20-7:00 A including bath
7:00-7:15 breast fed and then bed

She has been sleeping good all through the night but her naps have kind of gone off the rails. She seems fine for the most part between naps though i think she has started teething a bit so i think that has been bothering her but it doesn't seem to be too bad. Am i worrying too much about it or is this normal?  Also? Should I be breast feeding her after solids?  She does take some sips of water from a sippy cup during her solid feeds?

On a side note:

Today she had a morning nap from 10:00-10:30. She seemed fine and I laid her down from 1:00-1:30. But she seemed kind of cranky and was rubbing her eyes quite a bit so i managed to lay her down from 3:30-4:00. Not quite sure what to do.

 ??? ???

Hi hun, sorry you've not had a reply until now.

First off, I would always bf before solids so she takes as much as possible. Solids before one is just for fun as the saying goes so you don't want her to be too full from solids to not take an adequate feed. Water with meals is perfect.

I think the teething may be having a part to play in this. My LO wakes at the 30mims mark when she's teething too. Perhaps you can medicate 20mins before the nap and see if that helps? Provided she's not on any reflux meds, ibuprofen works a lot better than paracetamol for teeth.

Wrt to your routine, I think your first A time is a little short. How about increasing that by 15mins, holding for three days and see if coupled with the meds it helps her sleep a little longer? You may need to increase again later, but I think that's a good starting point. I would keep all the other a times as they are considering she's doing well at night, so especially the last A to bed looks great.

I'd give that a go for three days and see how she goes? Of not, I would increase the first A again and possibly try w2s to see if the waking is habitual. Problem is with this is, if the A times aren't right and it really is the teething that's an issue it might not work so I'd give the other options a go first. Wdyt?

Yay! Keep the A times for a couple of days. You may find you need to increase again soon. This time is a tricky time for sleep as there's a developmental leap around now x
