18 month old two to one nap transition
« on: October 19, 2014, 20:51:09 pm »
We have been slowly making the transition to one nap.  Our schedule was

7-7:30- wake
11:15nap
1 lunch
430- catnap
Bed- 815

It started to take him 20-30 minutes to fall asleep for the second nap and it started pushing BT to 8:30.  This week he started only sleeping for 45 minutes for his first nap and waking happy.  So I decided to push him to 12 and do one nap.  The last three days he has woken up 45 minutes crying.  Two days I was able to resettle him with some patting and he has fallen back asleep for another hour or more.  Today I wasn't able to get him back asleep, so now I'll have to give him a afternoon CN. He been really clingy all week and grutchy so not sure if he is teething or what.  Just hoping I'm on the right track.  Our schedule the last the three days has been

7-wake
12ish- nap
2ish-wake after being resettled
7:50-BT

He falls asleep within 10 minutes for his nap and BT.  Any advise? Teething?

We have a similar wake up and bedtime but we do naptime at 12:30/1:00. I wonder if a bit more A time might help. How are the nights?

Nights have been great, no wake ups, knock on wood. Haha. i know he's ready for one nap, but not sure why he's waking 30-50 minutes into them.  It seems like discomfort.  We just got to 12 nap in the last three days, so not sure if he's ready for 12:30 yet.  He's soo clingy and wants to be carried all the time for the last week.  He's also pulling on his ears.

Yeah don't want to jinx yourself. I always do that. Hmm could be teething or illness, have you tried pain meds just to see? But then I would think nights would suffer too. Or could just be getting used to one nap, I have never tried w2s but might work in that case.

He definitely has napped long before, just having a hard time lately.

There is a sleep regression around the 18 month mark too, and a lot of times developmental stuff and growth spurts happen on birthdays and half birthdays so lots to factor in to why he may be waking.

I just have to remind myself that's it's another phase.  It will be nice to have this transition over.

Oh I know! Hard when you are in the midst of it to see what a small amount of time it really is. Toddler sleep can really suck sometimes!

Naps all over the place.  He had a couple 2+ hour naps, then the last two days had to resettle to get more than an hour?? Not sure what is going on.  He did have an hour NW the other night.  Just can't figure it out.  Like I said I hope it's just a phase.  I have been pushing his naps to 12:30 but they are all over the place in length.

They've been off and on.  Couple good days and then today only a little over an hour, but resettled for another 45 minutes.  Just hard to figure out.
