Bedtime routine and nursing to sleep
« on: October 06, 2014, 23:30:28 pm »
We do a wind down (quiet play) followed by bath and nurse in a dark room.... My LO sometimes falls asleep from nursing and sometimes falls asleep independently.  Either way he is waking 1-2 (rarely 3) times a night at 13 weeks old.

i was wondering what others did....do you start with a feed then bath etc?

Nursing in a dark room seems to work...just don't know if I would be better off with a routine that will work for when he is older.
Should I be consistent with either letting him fall asleep from nursing or not letting him (ie. waking him he does fall asleep)? I do try and wake him...usually by trying to burp him...but sometimes nothing gentle works!
His crib is in our room at the moment ... So his routine is going to change anyway in a few months when we move him.

Well with my first two the bedtime feed was a bottle by 3-6 weeks so DH could feed them but we always did bath and then feed and straight to bed (was the only time we reveresed the E and A) and with DD3 I bf her to sleep until she was 4 months and she stopped falling asleep, so she had bath, bf and then a story with big sisters and bedtime. I think it worked okay because they were not fed to sleep for naps and slept fine then. 1-2 feeds at night sounds great, he is getting close to the next growth spurt though so there might be an increase in feeds then.

He isn't fed to sleep for naps either, which is why I wasn't too worried about it.  It is becoming more frequent that he doesn't fall asleep from nursing so maybe I should wait and see whether that becomes the norm before worrying about changing his routine.

Sounds like a good plan!
