2 year molars - how bad?
« on: October 11, 2014, 07:48:13 am »
Hi everyone

We are in 2 year molar hell and have got a thread going on that but I was wondering if I have the worst teether ever or whether you had similar experiences?

1st year molars was 3 months of APOP, lack of IS and general misery of multiple NWs and EWs and major OT! 2nd year molars seem to be shaping up the same!!! Poor DS...

Our dentist said it can be fairly common for LOs to be very badly affected.

I am slowly slipping into AP and co-sleeping as I have a touchy sleeper who just needs the comfort. Meds are not really helping.

Interested to hear how your LOs faired and top tips for survival!!!

R really struggled too. It boiled down to setting the alarm for silly o'clock, dream meds, lots of cuddles and reassurance. I didn't co-sleep etc but R isn't a touchy sleeper so maybe that's why I didn't need to. I did have to Wi/WO on occasion - we were hit by some sleep shenanigans around 2y and 27m which didn't help

DD wasn't actually too bad a teether but the first one of the 2y molars was especially bad.  Long long NWs, unsettled after BT, early waking etc etc.  The really bad bit lasted a week - I gave pain meds (though in fairness they didn't seem to help that much with the 2y molars), reassurance, extra cuddles but then essentially used the same settling techniques as always, ie walk in, tuck back in, walk out and accepted it would take longer than usual.  I didn't have a touchy sleeper so perhaps that made it easier but in general I've always tried to avoid introducing any new habit/technique that I wouldn't be happy with long term.  So that for me would have made co sleeping a total no-no, but I'd for example be happy to sing an extra song or give an extra cuddle.
