Hi all,
I am really at a loss as of what to do with my lo.  We have had her on EASY since about 5 weeks old and it worked wonders for about the first 6 months iro sleeping.  By 4.5 months she was sleeping through 7-5 having weaned herself off the night feeds.  (we df until about 6.5 months when she just wasn't interested anymore)  She hit 6 months and has been so up and down since.  She is teething for sure but wakes constantly - some nights every hour or so.  We used pupd with our first daughter which was a success within a week and she is a fantastic sleeper but dd2 is having none of it - if you sshhh her or try to pat (or just lay a hand on her) she just screams louder and longer.  Actually picking her up results in her also getting more and more angry. She has a dummy most nights (some nights she doesn't want it at all) and sometimes she literally just wants it and will go straight back off, other times she just seems to want to screech at us.  We have tried not going to her straight away to let her self settle but she just gets angrier and louder!  How do we teach her to self settle without pupd?
Any ideas gratefully received.
Her basic routine:
Wake 5am (cannot change this no matter what we do but it's not really a problem for us)
S 6-7am
E 730
A - (1st milk 9am)
S 10-11/1130
E 12
A - (2nd milk 1pm)
S 3-4/430
E 5
A - (last milk 6pm)
Bed 630/7pm
Thank you xx

Hi there,
I wonder if she could be a bit UT, causing the NWs. Is she getting about two 1.5hr naps? So three hours of day sleep?  That might be too much for her.
Maybe you're starting the 2-1 and one nap needs to be capped a little.
Have you read this?
From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older)

My dd is nearly 9 months and our day now looks (approximately) like this:

WU 7 am
Nap 10.30-12.00
Nap 3.30-4.05 (we wake her to preserve a 7pm bt
BT 7pm asleep around 7.15

Maybe you could try stretching her am A time a bit to aim for something similar?

An alternative is to cap the am nap and then do a longer pm nap.

Wdyt?

Thanks for the link.  Yes possibly I was wondering if she was UT, having read some of the other posts and replies.  It's hard to say for definite though as that was a vague daily run down - we're out and about so much sometimes she doesn't get a morning nap at all (she's never been one to sleep much in the buggy) so does sometimes only have 1.5-2 hrs all day.  She's such a stroppy little lady is the problem lol - if she's tired there's no mistaking it and I don't know if I could bear to keep her up and have her grumpy!!  I will read up on the 2-1 a bit more though - thanks for the suggestion.
Jenny xx

Do you notice a difference in the number of NWs after days with more/less sleep?

If not then perhaps it's not 2-1..

Does she settle independently at BT?

I think at this age for pupd you can try and just use your voice more (eg say a reassuring phrase) and try to get them to settle in their cot.  Pu can sometimes be too stimulating.

Have you read this?
How to PU/PD (inc age adaptations)
(See especially the bit for 8 months to a year)

And also the chapter on pupd in bwsayp?

Thank you, yes I read the book constantly trying to find another angle lol! Last week I made sure she only had 2-2.5 hours of napping time each day but nights were still the same 😒  she wasn't well over the weekend and had more sleep and seemed to have a few slightly better nights?! Who knows, she is such a difficult child to keep calm, she gets majorly stroppy very quickly! Thanks for your help, we will just have to ride it out I think x

And yes, I forgot to say, she self settles beautifully at nap time and bt, it's like she can't wait to go to sleep (just doesn't like staying that way lol)

I wonder if she's used to having her sleep in several chunks. Eg perhaps the 5am WU is because she's had enough sleep for the night and the sleep 6-7am is like a first nap. I might be way off the mark here, but I wonder if you were to treat the 5am WU as the start of her day, keep her up as long as poss, then put her down for a nap. Make sure she sticks to two naps. You then might have to work on shifting the whole day later (incl BT) to move the 5am WU later.  Might also help NWs if she has fewer chunks of day sleep.  WDYT?
