21 mo NW all night
« on: November 12, 2014, 09:56:21 am »
The past couple nights DS has been having random NW. He's been having about 2 but just babbles and goes back to sleep. Tonight has been horrible. He has been up almost the entire night. Multiple 2+ hour NWs. It's now 4:50am and he's been up since 3:00 this time. I went in (which I never do) just to check his diaper and make sure he was fine. He's not crying and just making noises and talking and fussing a little.

His schedule has been a little off since the clocks moved back a couple weeks ago, but for the most part looks like:

Wake 6:30
Nap 12:00/12:30 (1.5hrs always)
BT 7:00

He's been taking about 30 mins to fall asleep for BT but usually goes to sleep very quickly for naps.
I just don't want this to become the norm and need to know if my routine looks off in any way. Anything else that could be causing this?

Thank you so much

Routine looks ok to me for his age, though the wakings sound either UT or developmental.  I'd be tempted to ride it out for a few days and see if it settles, then if not you could try just pushing his nap 15-30 mins later and keeping at the same length to see if having a longer chunk of A time in the morning makes him more tired overnight.  What do you think?

Thank you so much for the reply. That sounds good to me. He's never done that before so I'm hoping its a one time thing...

I ended up going up there a little after 5:00 since he had been up for almost 3 hours and gave him Motrin. He finally fell asleep and slept until 7:45. Maybe he's getting his molars??

I make a doc appointment for tomorrow morning just to check his ears for an infection so I can rule that out as well.

We had a playdate this morning with his 2 buddies and he was fine- a little tired but nothing horrible and doesn't seem sick. As soon as he got home he had a full blown meltdown and was screaming and pitching a huge fit. I immediately laid him down and he wanted nothing to do with me and finally worked himself to sleep. Woke after 30 mins screaming again- clearly OT. But I talked him into going back to sleep through the monitor. He's asleep now and hoping he catches up on lost sleep from last night.

Is 5.5 hour A time before and after nap about normal for this age?

Again, thank you SO much! We are ready to start trying for baby #2 soon but after last night I may have changed my mind  :o

Teeth could definitely play a part - though I generally found LO was unsettled/unhappy when waking for that reason.

It's so variable with A times once you are on one nap.  We were at (I think) maybe 6h ish pre-nap and then 4-4.5h after at that age but others do like their day spread more evenly.

Thank you Katherine.

Unfortunately, he's sick :( Started running 101 fever around dinner time. Glad we are going to doc tomorrow. Assuming that's why he's been having NWs for a couple days now and especially the extremely long NWs last night. Hoping it won't last more than a few days.

I'm sure I'll be back on asking how to get back on track after he's healthy again...

Thank you so much. His fever was 104 all morning but we finally got it down to 100 before bed tonight. He's on antibiotics now so hopefully after a few days he will be okay. For now we will just get by the best we can.

Once he's better, I'd like to get back on and get some advice on his schedule since we were having a little bit of issues before he got sick.

Thank you for your kind words
