Yes, I found it the easiest with my daughter too.

No nap again today (he refused it), but this time he was happy and chilled out when I came home at 6pm, so he obviously handles it much better after a good night's sleep.  Assuming tonight goes OK, that is.

I have one last question - tomorrow I have to be out all morning and will probably be driving home around his nap time.  He's likely to fall asleep, so I won't know if he'd normally have napped at home or not.  How long do you think I should let him have, assuming tonight goes OK?  And if he EWs the next morning cos he'd UT, and we get stuck in another rut of him taking a nap cos he's been up for so long by 1pm, but it then causing him to be UT at bedtime, should I just force a NND to get out of that EW cycle again do you think?

Or do a day where you do a quick catnap of 15-20 mins rather than a 'full' nap?

Oh yes, that's a good idea.  He kind of did that today actually.  He fell asleep in the buggy at 12.30 but only had 20 minutes. I don't know why I bother making a plan for him, he finds his own way anyway!   He was cheery right up til bedtime so hopefully that's okay for him.  Will find out in the early hours of the morning I guess! But yes, I could use that again as a tide over nap if the UT EWs start again.

We used to take a tactical car ride in the afternoon if DD was clearly tired but wouldn't nap in bed.  15-20 mins was all we let her have though, any more, she was awful to wake and grumpy until bedtime!  I guess because 15-20 mins is still light sleep whereas 30 mins is more deep.
