TOP TIP- whispering actually works!
« on: January 15, 2015, 19:31:29 pm »
I have had so much support and help from this site I wanted to share this amazing approach I accidentally stumbled upon when trying to get my 22 month old to sleep three nights ago. She is very up and down with her sleep and for the last month or so has insisted either my husband or I stay in the room with her for her to fall asleep. We either have our hand on her bottom or she keeps popping her head up to look for us. It was taking up to 45 minutes for her to wind down and drop off. One night I had left the room to start my usual in/out hand on bottom business when I started whispering to my husband on the landing. We suddenly realised she'd gone quiet and dropped off to sleep on her own in record timing! It must have ben reassuring enough for her to hear us, yet quiet enough to not stimulate (more like white noise). It's worked for three nights now taking less time each night. If I'm alone I read out text messages or just mumble to myself. I'm so thrilled by it! Actual baby whispering!!! Let me know if it works for you :-)

Sounds handy. Think it would work with a preschooler? Thanks for sharing.

Lovely - just goes to show what our LOs can do with the right level of reassurance :)
