how to make pork tender for 15mnth old
« on: February 21, 2015, 22:56:34 pm »
Hi everyone  ;D

My son generally is a 'okay' eater, his issue has always been texture. Since he has a texture issue how do I make pork tender for him? For example, pork chops tender like a chicken thigh? Thank you kindly in advance!!

At that age I would make slow cooked meats so pork shoulder and beef brisket. In fact doing pork shoulder to day as so good. Takes some planning but not much work!

For chops I guess you could braise them or cook slow in the oven covered with foil? Not sure as I always find chops are dry.

Slow cook all the way! DD still has issues with texture of some foods. I find for things like a chicken breast, if I'll boil it in some home made chicken stock for 20mims and it just falls apart, that works well for a quicker meal. Also, flaky fish goes down well here.. I just get some frozen cod fillets as I don't eat fish myself and bung that in the oven for 25mims or so and make a cheese sauce to go over the top. This is normally a winner too.

I'm doing pork today today.. Plan to slow cook in the oven as DH likes the crackling.. For me, I'd prefer to shove it in the slow cooker for 8hrs but hey ho  ;) hth x

Another thought is if you did want to do a chop then avoid the loin chops. You can buy shoulder steaks I think that you could cook and would be less tough than the loin. Again I would try and find a recipe that had them cooking in some liquid rather than fry or grill - or at least marinade them.
