Is 1hr15min nap normal?
« on: April 12, 2015, 18:11:26 pm »
I'm confused, if one sleep cycle is 45 mins long and my 6mo ds is waking up after 1hr15m, does that mean he isn't completing two full sleep cycles?

Some babies have shorter sleep cycles, mine seems to do about 39 minutes (very precise!) so could just be that your LO has 37/38 min cycles so 1hr 15 is 2 cycles. Back in the day when my LO would sometimes nap through more than one cycle we would get 1hr 17-1hr 20 min naps as 2 cycles.

I think average is a 40-45 min cycle.

My first thought would also be as sparklewings has said, the length of the sleep cycle.  Unless you have been observing your LOs sleep cycle length since birth or a few months and know that the length is not 38mins.
I believe Tracy said at 6 months the sleep cycle begins to lengthen until it becomes the length of an adults. from reading many many threads on the forums I've never seen a lengthening sleep cycle for a 6 month old but it must happen at some point because by around 12 months most seem to have longer cycles.
You could watch your LO through a nap, you would likely be able to see the first transition to time it.
