Do babies grow out of short naps?
« on: July 26, 2015, 08:18:39 am »
Hi

My little girl is 3.5 months and is following a good EASY. She is lasting about 3.5-4 hrs between bottles and is awake for about 1hr 45m before needing to sleep. However she only ever naps 30/45m and then wakes. Sometimes I can resettle her but always in my arms. Other times I just hold her for the whole nap as I know she will sleep longer and wake up refreshed. However I have an older daughter so she ends up watching cartoons while younger one naps which isn't ideal.

Will I always have to extend her naps or is it a developmental thing? At some point will she nap longer?

I do think it is developmental, and with the correct A time, a consistent routine & a good wind down/ sleep environment, things do get better.
short naps at 3-4 months? Take it easy, it will get better!

So I should just carry on trying to extend when I can? I have another daughter so sometimes not possible and I just get her up then and carry on the day?

Try to resettle her so that she at least gets the message that nap time is not over/ you're expected to sleep longer but other than that, if it isn't happening, it isn't happening. Just reduce A by 15 minutes or so before putting down for the next nap:) Life is too short to be pat/shushing in a dark room all day, right?
