Bad parenting - Baby can't sleep with noise
« on: August 25, 2015, 11:19:31 am »
Hello,
I just realized my 5mo can't sleep with noise.
She has a good EASY routine and she can fall asleep on her own with a paci (i know that doesn't count as 100% falling asleep on her own )

Lately I have been noticing that when there is noise while she sleeps she wakes up  :-\ and has a hard time falling back asleep if the noise continues. This doesn't even have to be a loud noise.. my parents are visiting and my father was coughing and she woke  :-[
I give her the paci and she calms down and sometimes I needed to do some shhh\pat, but the last time she just wouldn't go back to sleep - which took me out of balance to be honest since our days are so expected, i wasn't sure what to do now - isn't that silly?!

I started thinking back to see if this was something I taught her and i can say it is definitely me... We are usually the two of us during the day since my husband is at work and the house is pretty quiet. I either sleep as well or do some other things that are not loud - and also i must admit, i think i tried keeping a quiet atmosphere since we had a rough time with sleeping when she was around 3mo and i noticed it helped her sleep.

I don't know what to do - introduce some noise into her sleep time? how?
she will be going to day care when shes 6mo and I am really nervous she won't be able to sleep at all there :(

i felt happy that she has a good EASY and sleep well (even though some wake ups at night) but now I just feel i messed things up for her and feel so bad  :'(

any advice please?

How about running a white noise machine or a fan pointed towards the wall (LOUDY) to drown it all out and bypass the issue. My 2 (6 and 3) still have fans in their rooms and it cuts way down on stress and my shushing DH in the evenings. What do you think?

thanks nevinsmama
She has a fan in her room which makes a nice noise, but still louder noises wake her up - I guess she just needs to start getting used to this right? in day care they don't have the same comfortable conditions as they do at home I assume.

Just wanted to pop by as I had the exact same issue with my DD when she was that age. Such a light sleeper. I too just kept things quiet.

I have to say it does get better hun, even without you doing much. We went to a wedding anniversary party at a friends house when DD just turned 1. The dj was up actually next to the room that DD was sleeping in (they have a huge hall in their house and the bedrooms lead off a mezzanine level). I had a heart attack once I realised what was going to happen. Yk what? I had that monitor strapped to my ear most of the night and not a peep! And to top things off she actually slept 12 hours straight, which she has never ever done before! Totally considered having a boom box playing outside her room from then on  ;)

After that, I have pressure washed the patio right underneath the bedroom, had furniture delivery people in and banging around, and all mostly ok! Hth xx
