Activity time regression and shorter naps for almost 6mo
« on: September 16, 2015, 18:15:36 pm »
Hi there,
My LO will be 6mo next week.
Shes been on a pretty good 4 hour EASY since almost from around 3.5+ months (with ups and downs ofc  :P)
About 3 weeks ago, when she was shortening her naps (which were 2h) i thought it's time to get more A time in, by adding 10 maybe 15 min. This was extremely hard and didn't go very well.
Then about 2 weeks ago it seems she is just so tired after a shorter A time - its been hard keeping her up even 2 hours which she has been doing for a long time.
then naps started to go crazy - once we even had 2x30min naps, poor little thing how tired she was.
other times it's mostly 1h15min maybe.
this week i decided to put everything aside and just listen to her.
she seems very tired after 1.5h A time, yawning a lot, rubbing her eyes, pushing her head into me - so i just put her to bed. couple times it helped and she did 2 hours again, others were still 1h15min or so, sometimes even 1h.
I am very confused about whats going on and most importantly i feel shes in an endless tiredness loop i don't completely understand how to get her out of.

I must say some things are going on lately that may affect her day but I am not sure how to help her get back on track.
We did some traveling 3 weeks ago and stayed at my parents for a week. first couple days where a bit off with naps but then it got back to being OK more or less.
we also had some holiday traveling again for 3 days couple days ago.
shes also been rolling during night in her bed so that's new, and since she sleeps on tummy she sometimes finds herself on her back and needs our help getting back to her belly (so cute) though sometimes she has already figured out how to roll back on her own.
We started introducing solids 2.5 weeks ago.
she also got her first tooth 2 days ago - it was a surprise and we didn't even notice so she didn't show any out of the ordinary behavior with that.

I think whats most confusing me is that she will be 6mo next week and has only done 2.15h couple times and now we are back to 1.5h...

any advice would be great
thank you!
Shira

Hi there!

It sounds like you've just been by a developmental bomb!  Between the teeth, the rolling over, the 6 month regression (which can definitely be a factor), and the traveling, sleep is bound to go a little sideways.  My DS2 is just over 6 months and he sometimes falls asleep in the car as we're going home.  Unless it's 15 minutes before his next nap, I gently wake him and get him to stay awake until his next S time.  A little power nap never harmed anyone and if there's so much growing and changing going on, can you blame her?  However, do try to keep things consistent for her.  It's great you're listening to her and following her cues, she needs that and the wonky naps will likely pass within a week.  If they don't, then you may be looking at another A push but I'd rather wait and see how this week plays out.

thanks for your reply lauradj
yes we did get hit by a bomb but we are taking it OK  ;)
I think listening to her was the right thing to do. she has been pushing her morning A time to 1.45 and the one after to 2h again.
in her morning sleep it's still around 1.15 however the one after can get to 2h - 2.15h so she gets her sleep there.

looks like she was just too OT for some time and needed to go one step back to get her energy again.
