What age cot bed to normal bed?

Hi

Not sure if this is in the right place so please move as necessary 

DS is 3.5 and I am wondering if I should change him up to a full size bed now - he still fits length-wise in his cot bed but am wondering if after 3.5 years the mattress is due a change so might as well change his bed at the same time. Is there a life span for cot bed mattresses - from memory it was a pretty decent one/sprung etc....

I think it depends on the mattress you got and the weight of LO.  We got a new mattress for DS's cot bed and he slept so so much better with it.

He moved from his cot bed to a double size bed just before 5yo.

We got DD2 a really nice mattress for her crib...she used it for almost 5 years and now DD3 has been using it for 2.5. It is still in great condition so we will use it until DD3 gets too long for it (probably another 1.5/2 years).

Mine both moved out of the cot into a toddler bed at about 2 and then DS went into a proper single bed at 4.5 and DD at 5.

We had a normal size cot, not a cot bed so went to the toddler bed before a full sized single. I liked the toddler beds as they were very low to the ground and made a good transition bed!

My DS went from cot bed to double bed at 3 yrs 9 months when DS2 came along. He loves his big bed....handy also for disturbed nights and guests staying x

DS was rapidly outgrowing the length of his cotbed at 3.5, so we switched him to a single at 3y 9mo and did him a room make-over at the same time

DD1 moved from a cotbed to a single just after she turned 5.

I hadn't thought about the mattress not being any good any more TBH.  It wasn't a bad matress and seems fine in my non-expert opinion!  We still have it for her cousins etc to sleep on when they stay.

I know DD1's matress was more plastic on the outside (DD3's is like a real mattress) and we gave DD1's to the dog as it had a couple of tears in it. DD3 is happily sleeping in her crib turned toddler bed as of last night!  I cleared out some of her stuffies so she has lots of room to grow.

Thanks guys. Am thinking a double bed too Haribo since his room is quite big...just to pick one and bedding now!!!

Watch out for the height of a double. it was something I didn't even think about when choosing DS's double and when we put it up we realised just how high it is (plus a good mattress which adds more height). It may not be something that concerns you but thought I'd mentioned as it was just not something we thought about.  DS kind of takes a running jump at his bed! He does love love love it though. (I did wonder why we didn't have a hug bed like that through all the awful teething etc as it is SO much more comfortable to give him some snuggles and support!)

Ours isn't too high really but there are some high ones out there. We got Disney cars lightening queen double duvet set, nothing much in shops but loads on line. Also put 3 pillows, 2 small adult ones at each side and his toddler one in the middle so it kind of feels cosier.

DS1 been in it about 6 months now, his mates think it's great he's got a big bed lol.
