Technically term is anywhere from 37 weeks to 42 weeks and a baby born in those weeks is considered 'term'. While 37 weeks is earlier and 42 weeks later the baby tends to be fully furnished growth and development.
Then you add in their personality and temperament, just like some adults only need 6 hours sleep, others need 9... It's important to use information in books as a guide, but to adjust to the information you learn directly from your own child. As a parent, it's not about getting it right or wrong, but taking a journey of learning and discovery.
My mum tells the story of my brother born at 36 weeks, he wouldn't give her 2 naps at just before 12 months and she had to start only giving him 1 nap, I on the other hand was born at 40+4 and I took 2 naps until past 18 months and my eldest didn't go to 1 nap until 20 months... So the personal variables do come into play.
