What food should not be frozen?

What veggies or fruit or food in general shoud definetely not be frozen for later use ?

i always heard that avocado does not freeze well and if you are going to freeze potato it shoudl be with another veg (ie potato and broccoli puree rather than a container of mashed potato).

Most cooked fruit and veg work ok.  Agree with Deb about the potato; it works best cooked and mixed with something else. It goes kind of grainy and watery on its own.

Freezing banana's whole in their skin work a treat for using them later for cooking or smoothies!

Yoghurt, cream, mayonnaise don't work well, they tendd to separate.

I agree about potatoes. They turn to rubber!  :lol: Though I have been freezing avocado's with no problems... though I freeze just about everything! The only caveat I can think of is no re-freezing food that's already been frozen.

Tofu freezes weird. It ends up looking and feeling like a sponge, but it's still edible...at least Tyler thought so!

i froze mashed potato in ice cube trays and it turned out fine.

What about chicken or meat. Let's say I buy it from the market make it the same day with some red peppers and olive oil, chop it finely and freeze it. Is this OK? Has anybody frozen prepared meat before?

I do frozen meat. I make something called "lasagna mash" with carrot, stewing beef, a bit on onion, macaroni, cheddar and cottage cheeses and tomato, then I puree the bunch and freeze it. Also have done squash and chicken, other veggies with chicken and the latest is a sole dish with carrot, broccoli and a cheese sauce made with formula. yeah I get a bit hyped out with the cooking for dd... :oops: poor dh, I spend all this time cooking and he get's all excited asking "what's for dinner smells so good!" and I have to tell him it's all for dd and we can order a pizza.  :lol: I think I'm secretly trying to make up for not being able to bf very long... :lol:    :wink:

As far as i know, spinach should NOT be reheated after its first cooking. It will be harmful for either baby or adults.

do  you know in what way it is harmful / why ?  i usually make risotto with spinach (for adults and alex) and have reheated from frozen

I have always made lasagne with spinach and frozen and then reheated with no problems...would be interested to know more too.

I've frozen potato no problem - give it ago with your normal pots and see how it turns out.

Frozen food shouls only be refrozen if it has changed 'state' ie, if it was cooked and frozen, you shouldn't use it in a recipe and then refreeze, but if it was raw, you can thaw it, cook it and then refreeze.

Have frozen all sorts of meats in purees and cubes and in recipes.
