Is this normal?

My son is almost 5mths old and for the last two weeks I have been formula feeding during the day and bf at night (usually only one or two feeds).  He drinks about 180ml of formula and sometimes does look around for more.  On a couple of occasions, I have given him 210ml and he has finished this bottle. 

Regardless of how much he drinks, he usually brings some back up - sometimes only a dribble but sometimes it looks like a tablespoon amount.  This can go on and off for the two hours he is awake.  He never cries and it just smells like vomit.  He would do this occassionally after breast feeding.  He has a formula that has been recommended because it is easily digested.

Is this reflux or a sign that he is having too much?  I did see a lactation consultant once and she saw him do this after breast feeding.  She said it didn't smell "acidic" - he may have a tiny bit of reflux but not enough to medicate.  His doctor also said this.  He is putting on weight okay (now I have him on formula). 

I will be starting solids at the end of September.  How much should a 5mth old be drinking and also how many feeds a day.  He is currently on about 5 feeds.   Sorry for using metric (I think 180mls is about 6oz).  Hi weight is almost 7kg (over 15lb). Thanks for any advice.

This happens to my son as well on occassion.  He has only every spit up/vomited 2-3 times but I've seen 'stuff' in his mouth more often than that.  It sounds as if it is acid reflux but, if he's not crying or fussing (and his doctor doesn't think it's a big deal), I would say don't worry about it.  (although it makes you wonder if it is acid reflux why he's not crying, right?  At least, I wonder about that.  :?)
