reusing bottles for second baby
« on: December 21, 2005, 21:18:36 pm »
I know this may seem silly, but did you reuse your bottles for your second baby.  I just pulled all mine down to count and see what I had and the bottles themselves look OK.  However, the nipples are kinda yellow.  Will boiling them be OK??  Should I buy new ones??

OH the joy of starting over with a newborn!!!

don't know if there's a right or wrong answer.

But if I ever manage to persuade DH to TTC for #2, then I'd probably get new teats / nipples and keep the bottles.

Hi Tara! Congrats on your new bundle of joy to be arriving in the new year!!
Here in Canada (not sure where you are) the boxes for the Playtex nipples say to boil them for 5 minutes before first use then NOT to boil them again. Just to clean them with hot, soapy water.
If they are not dried and/or cracked I can't see a problem with just cleaning them really well and giving them a try.

Personally, myself, i would throw the old ones and buy whole new bottles and everything.  But thats just me.

I would definitely buy new teats/nipples though.  Aren't you supposed to change the teats every few months anyway? Or is that just a ploy to make you buy more!?!
The actual bottles should be fine so long as they're not brittle or anything.

Personally I'm going to reuse the bottles and any nipples that weren't used too much.  I know that sounds vague, but when I stored them, I wrote on the bag if they weren't used very long, such as the newborn ones cause she moved up in sizes pretty quickly.  However, the 3s or 4s I know she used for quite awhile so I'll probably replace those.  I just put ours in the dishwasher for cleaning them, no boiling, but a good clean with hot water.  Bottles thesedays are made with hard plastic so they should be okay I would think even if you replace the nipples.  HTH

I know avent advise to replace teats/nipples after using for 3 months or so for 'hygiene' reasons. I would certainly reuse bottles but would probably replace any teats/nipples just to be safe.

Well,  I bought new nipples today!  I think the bottles look OK but I decided the nipples had to go!!  Thanks for the advise.
