5 week old takes too long to get back to sleep!
« on: January 01, 2006, 14:54:29 pm »
My 5 week old dd is great about getting back to sleep during the day, but at night it's as if she's ready for her awake time. It takes a long time to get her back to sleep. What can I do? She is sleeping 5.5 hours during the day and 4 hours from 8-1245, and then the feedings after this she is hard to get back to sleep.

This was our day yesterday.

How long is it taking you 30 min or more?  I think this is very common at 5 weeks.  What I might suggest is having bath time a bit earlier and putting her to bed after the 6:50 feed.  You want to work towards getting her to a 5 or 6 hr stretch.  It could be that her tummy is just too little though.

Also just remember not to play during this time, or bounce, or turn on the lights or take her away from her sleep place.  Whisper and feed.  This really helped my dd learn to go back to sleep.

My dd at 6 weeks was doing:

7:30 eat
11:30 eat
3:00 eat
5:30 eat

so that is pretty close to what your lo is doing.  It just takes time.  Hang in there!
