will take cereal at 5pm not first thing...
« on: December 28, 2005, 16:59:25 pm »
I have had success with oatmeal and my 6/12 old.  He will take 1-2tbsp beautifully at 5-6pm in the evening but when I try to feed him in the morning he refuses  .

This is his schedule currently:  any suggestions as to what I can do?  I thought about trying fruit first and then cereal after his next bottle.  What do people think about this?

We are also battling 45 min naps at the present time.

6am wake and BF
7-730 am try cereal (usually won't take)
8 am nap
10 am EBM ~4oz
12 pm nap
2pm EBM ~5-6oz
330pm nap
5pm EBM ~4 oz
6pm cereal 1-2 tblsp
730 EBM top up ~4 oz and bed
11pm DF 8 oz
sleep until 530-6am

Thanks

I wouldn't stress it.  Give it a few days and then offer again.  The cereal's not that important yet - by about 9 months, it's helpful to have the extra iron in it, if they haven't started meat by then, but at this point, it's just to get used to different tastes and textures.

As for adding fruit - he's old enough to try - just make sure to start only one new thing at a time.  For the first year, milk's the main source of nutrition anyway!

I agree with Erin, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If he's taking his nursings fine, then he's getting what he needs. You may find that when you drop the dreamfeed, he's a little hungrier in the morning and might eat more. HTH!

Hi, my son was the same at the same age. It wasn't until he was nearly 8 months and we swapped to his food then bottle that he started eating cereal and yoghurt/apple for breakfast.
