waking at night when she used to sleep through help!
« on: December 29, 2005, 08:47:57 am »
Hello my little one is four and a half months old. She used to sllep through from seven to three in the morning when i would feed her and she would go back to sleep. She has had a cold and now seems to settlee to sleep intially but sort of wakes up after two hours she crys in her sleep and rolls around sucking her fingers and eventually wakes up. i then settle her by stroking her head and nose and she goes back to sleep only to wake up at eleven and feed and then three in the morning(feed) then five (shush pat). I usually shush pat if she has trouble getting back to sleep which seems to work.

She generally does not seem to be in a deep sleep like she used to. I was wondering wither it was time to start weaning as she polished off two bottles last night or wither its just a sleep issue. She is on easy routine part from the evenings when it is difficult to get her to nap. any help would be appreciated as rather tired....

at 4 months there are usually some developmental milestones - in addition to the cold - and it very frequently disturbs sleep.  the good news is that with lots of practice, your lo will get over it.  the bad news is that until she's satisfied, you  have to ride it out.  if she was feeding once before out of hunger, i'd probably stick to that feed, but probably wouldn't add extras unless she seemed to be truly hungry.

would definitely stick to the shh/pat - seems to be working for you.  also, if she's stuffy & having trouble breathing, elevating her mattress at one end can help wonders; just stick a couple blankets under one end.

good luck & HTH  :D

I just wanted to say that my DS is 4 months old next weeks and we're having trouble at night too even though he's slept through since about 6 weeks!  He's also sleeping much lighter and waking up hungry during the night.  I'm trying to get more calories into him during the day but without a good result yet.  I'm hoping things may improve once we've made the transition to a 4 hour routine which is what we're beginning to work on now!  I hope I won't need to introduce solids until 6 months so will ride it out  :)
