we started doing one arm out at 3 months, then moved to both arms out by 4 months or so...

I said 3 months, but I think it was more like 2 or so.  It did not seem to help her.

I said older...Tyler was in a full Aussie swaddle for naps until 8 mo, then we sloooowly weaned him to legs wrapped in a blanket. To this day, we still wrap his legs for naps, and he'll be 2 this week! The act of swaddling has always had a strong sleep association for him, so we've kept it up, and now the blanket is his lovey.

With my first child.,...Kennedy I think it was around 4 months.
With my second child .....Thomas it was 10 months. It seemed very late but he would not sleep any other way. At that age I did the aussie swaddle. When he was younger  I swaddled a more simpler version.

My son is still swaddled now at 7 1/2 months. He is still far too active with his arms to try unwrapping him fully - I did try! Am delighted to hear that there are others who have done it so late as I was getting really worried that he should be unwrapped by now.

We've just done it this week!  He's had one arm swaddled for about 3 weeks and I decided to put him in a Grobag because he wakes at night when he's turned from his side to his back and I thought it may help him get back on his side himself.  He also likes to suck both hands at the same time!  He was going through a growth spurt so waking in the night anyway so thought I may as well go for it - the growth spurt seems to be over and his arms aren't waking him up so right decision!

My DD is nearly 8mths and is still swaddled and still totally needs to be!

If she wakes in the night she needs a re-swaddle to go back to sleep and her arms need to be down by her side at all times!!!

I'm sure I'll be swaddling until she's 18 at this rate!!??? Its getting harder now shes bigger but think I'll just have to carry on until she 'learns' her hands!!!!!

We started a half swaddle, under the arms only at about 3.5 months and by 6 months I moved her into a grobag with no problems.

My DS is 9 months and still swaddled from the waist down at naps only.  He doesn't really need to be swaddled to stay asleep but when I get out the blanket he knows it is nap time!  Besides it is pretty cold here in Canada right now (atleast where I am) so it helps keep him warm.   At night he sleeps in what we call his "sleeping bag" but only when it is really cold.

Glad to see there are others that are late swaddlers as well  :D

We swaddled until Elise was 5 1/2 mos - when it got to the point that she was moving so much & out of the blanket before I left the room. I had been leaving one hand/arm out (she sucks on her fingers) for a couple months before we stopped.
