How to Settle DD For Sleep
« on: December 28, 2005, 00:55:07 am »
My 8 month old dd was on EASY when she was 2 months old.  But everything changed when I went back to work.  I've been nursing her to sleep since I went back to work when she was 5 months old. It started because she would be really sleepy when I picked her up from daycare and she would fall asleep when I bf her and she would be out for the night.  She only woke once then to bf.  But now, she sleeps at 7:30 and will wake every 1-2 hrs to bf from 1-7 am. I'm currently trying to break the nursing to sleep habit.  I'm trying to get her on track again but I can't seem to get her to settle down for her naps and bedtime by just sitting down with her quietly. She can never stay still!  She'll be climbing all over me and eventually I get tired and I just put her down on the bed (she sleeps on the bed with me still    ).  She would be rolling everywhere, crawling and attempting to stand up by holding on the headboard. This usually lasts between 1-2 hrs.  I swear she was yawning, rubbing her eyes, showing all the 'I'm sleepy' cues before I try putting her to bed!  And all of a sudden, she's wide awake!  But if I nurse her instead of sitting down with her quietly, she will be out in 10 min.  What should I do?!!  Thanks!

Read the Gradual Weaning information...I've been doing that since I read the No Cry Solution book a couple of weeks ago.  It's improving.  DD will go to sleep herself bythe 2nd or 3rd time I remove my breast but she still needs to nurse to get herself to a sleepy state.

She has a cold and ear infection and the routine's totally off now.  She sleeps and wakes at different times now and her appetite has decreased somewhat.  She used to sleep at about 7:30pm but now she'll stay up till about 9:30 even though she's sleepy.  I don't understand why.  I still put her down at 7:30, hoping that she'll sleep.  After more than an hour, I'll eventually take her out of the room and out her in the playard for about 15min (need a breather!).  Am I encouraging her to stay up by letting her play?

Sigh...most of my friends and relatives think that I'm trying too hard to get her to sleep.  They think I should just let her play and only put her down when she's really really sleepy. But that means it'll be about 9:30!  I dunno...
