i'm pretty sure i have been told the pumped bm can stay in the fridge for up to three days??  without it going bad??  and how about freezing...i have heard many variations on how long it will last in a fridge/freezer and in a deep freezer...can anyone set me straight here?? thanks

I was told:

EBM in the fridge up to 5 days - keep it right up the back in the coldest section of the fridge
In the freezer (not on the door) up to 3 months
In a deep freeze up to 6 months (not certain on this one - didn't pay much attention as I don't have a deep freeze)

I think it's actually 8 days in the fridge...  And I've just read recently that you're not supposed to shake bm, rather just gently 'swirl' it to mix it up again...

I read the same thing about swirling instead of shaking.  I read that shaking can damage the milk.  I sure hope not because I have shaken almost every frozen ounce I have    The creamy part is hard to get off the edge so I shook it not knowing.  Anyone know if the swirl vs shake thing is accurate?

thanks for your replies...bm apparantly last longer in the fridge than what i was ever told - just wish i hadn't dumped all that good bm on the  3rd day now!  anyhow, never new about swirling vs shaking...i have always shook the milk, maybe i should reconsider my method..?!

Unless it's really hot in the room, and then it's less time.  As for the rest - the times are accurate.  Never heard about the shaking/swirling thing myself either though...
