I think you're letting him get too far into sleep cycles before you put him down. He's starting to fall asleep in your arms, where he feels weightless, and then waking when he hits the mattress. Instead I'd suggest trying to lay him down sooner - when he's relaxed and tired but not yet starting to fall asleep.

Corrina Yes, I do. That is one way for him to wind down.

Marisa Mom Well, we have been trying this for maybe a couple of days.  I thought that he was playing in his bed because he was not drowsy enough when I putted him in (I use to do the routine, and just pop him to bed, after he had yarnes.  He was fully awake; calm, but fully awake, and he would fall asleep unassisted.  But lately, it has been taking him AGES to fall asleep, like sometimes 1 hour or more) so I thought that maybe getting him there sooner, with a bit of help would help.  But even when he gets closer to dreamleand, he wakes up as soon as he touch the mattress, so it didn't help at all.  SO I guess there is never a good time for him to fall asleep quickly, or I'm never able to get it, not matter how I try.

How long have you been rocking him to sleep, since the short naps? or longer than that?

If it has been since the short naps, I have a suggestion I would time how long it takes for him to get to dreamland, then the next nap put him down 1 minute before he enters dreamland, so the weightless in your arms to put him in his cot doesn't wake him.
