Pu/Pd or Pt/Shh for 12-week old?
« on: February 09, 2006, 02:54:15 am »
Hi,

My lo will be 12 weeks this Sunday and we have some accidental parenting to correct.  She was diagnosed with reflux and it took a few weeks to get her on the right medicine.  She was in pain and not sleeping well, so we did anything/everything to get her to sleep.  The biggest issue is that we've been rocking her into a full sleep and then transferring to the crib.  Her medication is working wonders for her and I want to get back to teaching her to fall asleep on her own!

Given her age (she's almost 3 months), should we start right away with pu/pd or still try and do pt/shh?  The last few nights I can get her to fall asleep in her crib with pt/shh....but she has to be incredeibly drowsy.   She obviously fusses since we're changing the 'how I go to sleep rules' on her.

I appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Nicole

If patting seems to be working, I think I would continue with that.  At least give it a good try.  You are right that changing the rules makes lo's fuss.   It gets easier though.   I sooo remember some of the "do anything to help the reflux baby"!!!  The good news is, like labor pain, the memory of this can also fade a bit.   :)  Or maybe that's the sleep deprivation that comes with it?   :D  Have you been to the reflux boards yet?  Tons of advice there too.  Keep us updated!!
