Help my daughter will not nap!!!
« on: February 22, 2006, 18:36:25 pm »
My daughter is NOT a very big sleeper.  6 weeks ago she was moved into her crib and it has taken her the entire time to adjust to it.  She is finally back on track getting up every 3 hours to feed.  For awhile she was getting up every hour!  At night she goes down around 9:00 ( will not go down early, I have tried) and is up around 7:00.  And like I said getting up every 3 to eat.  During the day I have tried and tried to get her to take her naps in her crib.  I have down p/u p/d for hours and hours with her finally sleeping for at most 40 mins in her crib.  This I also have been doing for weeks.  Lately I have continued to try to do this during the morning but her afternoon nap I have been letting her sleep in her swing which is around a 2 hour nap.  If I don't let her sleep in her swing for her afternoon nap she will not take any nap all day long and becomes very over tired.  Especially since she does not get that much sleep at night.  Should I continue to do this and hope when she is ready she will start taking her naps in her crib.  As mentioned I still try to get her to take a nap in the crib everyday I just have not have success.  Any suggestions or tip you have I would appreciate it!  Thanks!

I only started b/w with my LO she was 4 months old and started with the daytime naps.  She took all her naps in swing previously. This is what i did...

Put her into bed and pat/ssshhh until dc was asleep (takes forever) and after a few days dc would go to sleep sooner. Then i stopped pat/sshh and just rested my hand on his back, until gradually it wasn't there, but i was still in the room ready for when dc woke to put him back to sleep. Then day by day, i gradually moved further away from his cot and then outside the door.
I would go up and wait outside his door just before 20mins as dc normally stirred around this time and at 45 mins so i could get him off before dc woke up fully.
Obviously some days were harder than others but persistence did overcome resistence. hope this helps.  The best tips i can give you are EXPECT resistence and be very, very persistent.  It will come, i promise.
