Periods and bf
« on: March 18, 2006, 21:24:26 pm »
This might be my silliest question yet!!!   Has anyone noticed any changes in their babies before or during their period?  And does menstruation have any effect on milk supply??

My lo was quite contrary for a couple of days before each of my(3) periods,  this time however i didnt have any pms atall, which is a new one for me!!!!  Just wondering do the hormones get into the milk?

I also feel that i dont have as much milk during my period, has anyone any knowledge about this?

thanks!! ;D

i have the same problem with low milk supply before my period...going through it right now actually  :-\ .  from what i hear, someone correct me if i am wrong - the milk is actually thicker so lo's don't necessarily 'not get enough'.  i always pump (even if it is dry) at this time to keep it up after the period is gone...then i can replenish my fridge/freezer supply for when i am in school!  it has to do with hormonal changes in your body..etc...

My supply also became low a few days leading up to and during my period. My DS would become quite frustrated on those days at nursing time as he was obviously aware of the drop but my supply always seemed to come back up of its own accord after. I'm not sure that wether hormones pass into the milk, I would hazard a guess at yes but would be v.interested what others think/know   :)
