Starting 2 to 1 transition, still offer PM nap?
« on: March 27, 2006, 18:47:59 pm »
I've decided to start DS on the 2 to 1 nap transition.  I'm confused about Tracy's directions in BW SAYP though.  She talks about pushing back the morning nap, but says nothing of the afternoon nap.  Do I continue to offer it?  When?  If I'm pushing back the morning nap, this will automatically push back his afternoon nap (and then I'll have to start shortening it?).  Or do I wake from the morning nap in order to preserve the afternoon?

I'm not sure which angle to approach it at because DS isn't actually refusing either nap.  He currently naps about 10:15 & 3:30 for 1.5-2 hours each.  I always wake him by 5:30, if he hasn't already, and he still goes down for bedtime at 8:00 just fine.

TIA!

Julie, what works best for us when we do have one-nap days is this - we try to hold him off til 10.30am at the earliest.  He hopefully then sleeps for at least 2 hours and then has his lunch.  Then I just make sure I'm out walking or driving somewhere late afternoon so he can have a short catnap if he needs to, say around 4ish.  Depending on whether he catnaps we either put him to bed early (like about 6pm) or just put him down at his usual bedtime (7pm).

Hope that helps.

Do you walk or drive because he'd refuse a catnap otherwise?

Today went well.  I put him down 15 minutes late and let him sleep as long as he wanted (almost 2.5 hours).  Now it's 4:30 and I just put him down for a catnap (he was ready for it).  I'll wake him if he's not up by 5:30.  Hoepfully bedtime goes okay still too.  This was a bit too easy, IYKWIM?
