Hi all,

I was looking at a topic in the toddler section about sunscreens and thought this reference might be of interest to mums of infants as well.  This link is for the Australia's Anti-Cancer Council's 'position' on using sunscreens for babies 0-12 months.

A friend of mine recently confided that her first born son suffered second degree burns after being in the sun all day.  Her and her husband were at an all day motorsports event.  She says she just didn't realise, and that she had applied sunscreen on and off and had an umbrella for him.  She was devastated by the looks she got from other people when they saw his face.  She said he had scarring for years, which amazed me.  Awful.  :'(

Thank you for that!

The document you have linked us to is brilliant. I had been thinking ahead to summer about what to do with William especially as he has terrible excema and his skin is sensitive. He was born in July last year in the midst of our summer and was too tiny to be outside much so this year will be the first time I need to take great care.

How do you cope with his eczema? What do use?  It seems to be such a difficult thing to stop or get rid of.

Char,

I don't mean to hijack the the question from Helen, but I've had great success with using Vaseline Intensive Care lotion with Alpha Hydroxy Acid on DS's exzema. It's only on his legs, and after about 2-3 applications the patches completely disappeared. I don't use it for everyday moisturizing, only to get rid of his patches. I think one of the other mom's posted a while ago that she had success using Eucerin lotion with Alpha Hydroxy Acid. HTH

Hi Gabrielle,

That's interesting, it must sloth away the dead skin really well.  Is your ds's skin scaly?  Rory has red dots/pimples and had redness under one eye. I didn't think it was eczema, but the doctor said the red dots/pimples were a giveaway.

My DS has dry patches that are the same color as his skin. We initially thought that it was psoriasis (both DH and I have that), but the pediatrician told us that it was eczema. He doesn't have pimples or redness at all. Also, I am not sure if the Vasoline or Eucerin lotions with AHA are OK for the face. They are actually for the body, and may be too strong for the face. HTH
