How to drop 1 bottle feed ?
« on: April 05, 2006, 12:23:16 pm »
Hi,  My son (who is 13 weeks) is now sleeping 12 hours at night.  He has 5 bottles a day, 3 7oz and 2 6oz every 3 hours.  I am a bit worried about dropping 1 of the feeds to get him in line with eating every 4 hours for the 4 month EASY schedule.  Should i just start adding an extra oz to some of the feeds during the day and slowing drop one out over the next few weeks.  I dont really wnat to do it cold turkey as he might not last 4 hours between feeds at the moment, and he might stop sleepign through the night if he hasnt got the same amount of calories ?  Does anybody else have any advice from when they did this ?

Much appreciated.  Louise and luke.

Hello! Do you have Tracy's second book? There is a great step by step plan for moving from a three to four hour schedule. Ther are also signs to look for when your LO may be ready to move. He may not be ready to move to a four hour routine right at 4 months. Check out this thread https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=41061.0

Hi,

He definately doesnt not want to eat at the 3 hour mark but he is only taking 45 mins naps - but has always done this.  I might try and push some feeds to 3.5 hours as i know he can go that long as he has done before.

also, i was wondering if the 4 hour schedule is best for babies who are starting to be weaned.  I know that up until about a year ago all babies were weaned by 4 months so they would have been able to go longer between feeds.

I just gave him an 8oz bottle which he finished so i'm going to see how long he can go now on his own ?

Thanks, Louise

I have attached the guide in the the that Leah's Mom refers to, you see that you need to take it slowly, it may also take longer than the suggested 2 weeks.

Your Lo should be on a 4hr EASY by the time he needs weaned anyway - I believe the absolute min. in the UK is 17weeks, unless of course your doctor has specifically said to start any earlier.

I think that is the best way, watch his cues for a couple of days and see how often during the day he needs fed, I also did this.
