accepting formula milk

Lou, i missed one of your messages, Ella is a tiny 141b 6 ounces she has been this weight for 6 weeks. Sometimes she gains 2 ounces but then looses them again. I just used a tiny amount of sugar (about half a teaspoon) in 7 ounces of formula ( i also made the formula weeker to start off with 7 water to 5 scoops). I know what you mean about medical help my reply was there isnt much you can do if she doesnt like milk just bulk her up on solids (hence the ongoing horrendous constipation) she is happy in herself but needs to plump up. Re medical help where are you i the world..just wondered how the system works?

Samulels mom and daisymelan i realy have to face up to the fact my milk has failed ( i can only express 2 ounces) my babe is so small i dont think i am doing her any favours. I am returning to work shortly so she really needs a bottle. I feel  a sense of loss and a feeling that i have let her down but also proud that i managed 6 months. Thanks Lisa

6 months IS really great.

One more thought - some of the formula manufacturers in the UK have 'helplines' or advice lines where you can phone and talk to someone in person. I've not used any of them myself but in your situation it might be worth a try if you still have concerns. I'm assuming the numbers are written on the cans like there are in the UK? You could talk through your situation with someone.

Thanks for your email (not sure how to reply to it!!).  This is GREAT news about Ella - sounds like you are on to a winner!!!!! If she carries on like this, I am sure she will start piling on the pounds.  By the way, what Formula are you using??  We are on Aptamil, which I know is quite sweet, we started on this, as I was told it would be very close to breast milk (it started as only 1 bottle a day in addition to breast feeding).  I think I will try your half a teaspoon trick next feed!

Just come back from a trip to A&E - Gabriel rolled out of bed onto a hard wooded floor, he's okay, but now I feel even worse about tomorrow!!!!  Got the Dr to check his throat for thrush - no sign!  We are in Surrey by the way - where are you??

Also - WELL DONE for 6 months BF - that's fantastic!!!!!  I was sooooooooooooooooo upset to give up, only managed 6 weeks (ironically he would not stop feeding from me ever, I couldn't put him down for even 5 mins - wish I'd paid for a private lactation consultant at the time!)

Lou, im glad Gabriel is ok i scarey when that happens. My DH shut ellas head in the car door some weeks ago and we ended up in A&E its amazing how resilient they can be. I also use Aptamil..it smells horrible not sure about the taste. Im in Plymouth my GP is quite good if i asked for a paediatrician referral she probably would. Im startng to feel anxious about the 3pm feed as im sure the screaming is going to start and i will be back to square one. let me know if the sugar works. lisaxx

oooouch!  I know it's amazing how tough they are - I bet that was awful, and you feel sooooo guilty.  Glad she is okay!

Let me know how it goes - I hate the dread as each feed approaches, it is so wrong to feel like this, it just shoudn't be a drama.
