Won't take last bottle of day...why?
« on: April 05, 2006, 17:41:04 pm »
My ds is 9.5mo old.  He gets 3 meals of solids per day and is stil taking 4 bottles.  Over the last few days, he hasn't been interested in his bottle before bed and as a result has been waking b/w 5-530 when he used to sleep until 6-630.  Any suggestions on how I can get him to take this bottle better??  Should I be dropping any bottles??

Here is his schedule most days

6-6:30 wake and BF
7-730 solids (4tbsp cereal and 4tbsp fruit)
9-915 nap for 1-1.5hrs
11-1130 bottle (5-6 oz)
1200-1230 solids (1tbsp meat, 4tbsp veg, 4tbsp fruit) and sips of water
200 nap for 1-1.5hrs
330-4 bottle (5-6oz)
430- solids supper (4tbsp cereal, 4tbsp veg and 3tbsp fruit)
700 bottle and bed

I have found if I give his solids any later than 430 it will make the 700 bottle impossible to take.
He usually takes on average 20-25 oz of EBM per day.

Any suggestions on what I can do??

Like you say it may mean you need to go to 3 milk feeds at approx.

1st.  6-6:30 wake and BF
2nd.  move the 2 middle bottles together so he gets in the middle of the day.
3rd.  7:00 bottle and bed

Sabine, I had the exact same problem.  My lo wouldn't take the last bottle either.  I ended up keeping all her earlier bottle times but just giving her a pot of yogurt (like the little mini-gos) just before bed.  She loved them and it counts as a lot of calories and calcium.

Calum's mom...

I like this schedule.  When should I give the 2nd bottle??  You said mid day--when would that be??
I have been doing bottle before solids b/c if I do solids first he will take very little bottle.

Thanks for all the great advice to everyone:)
